CAMPAIGN PROMISES:

SUPPORT SCHOOL VOUCHERS: I support vouchers, and have voted for and/or co-sponsored this legislation for several sessions. http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/questionnaire2008/legislative08

SUPPORT GOOD TEACHERS AND SMALLER CLASS SIZES: I have always voted in favor of extra funding that goes into the classroom or raises teachers’ salaries. But, just spending money without a plan on any agency is not the best way to see improvement. Any extra funding needs to go to retaining good teachers and keeping classroom sizes smaller. http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/questionnaire2008/legislative08

NOTABLE QUOTES:

Sept. 25, 2009

“I tell people two things. One, it’s an incredible educational tool. A lot of money from the ArtShare endowment fund goes into the schools, and that’s especially important because arts are some of the first things to be cut in schools. And second, I always think of art as a historical tool. It’s a way to see how past civilizations lived.”

July 11, 2008

“It isn’t like I was being some rogue, bad Republican,” she said. “I could have voted “no,” and maybe I would have felt better, but that wouldn’t have been representative of my district.”

April 2, 2008

“So if you think about it, what we’d be asking them to do is decide between giving teachers pay raises or keeping utility costs or keeping lights on. That’s just unacceptable. The state should be paying for both.”
