Fourteen percent of jobs projected for Arizona through the year 2018 will be suited for high school drop outs, according to the June 16, 2010 front page article in the Arizona Daily Star.

The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce report titled Help Wanted: Projections of Jobs and Education Requirements Through 2018, forecasts Arizona’s jobs by education level as follows:

High School Dropouts: 14%
High School Graduates: 25%
Some College, No Degree: 9%
Associate’s Degree: 25%
Bachelor’s Degree: 18%
Graduate Degree: 6%

Based on this, Arizona’s future workforce will be choosing from jobs in food preparation and serving, building and grounds cleaning and maintenance, construction, mining and transportation. “Those are jobs that seriously limit their ability to make a living wage,” said John Pedicone, vice president of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council and a former school superintendent.

According to the study, Arizona ranks 37th in the percentage of forecasted jobs that will require a bachelor’s degree–at 18% of jobs.
