Arizona Legislature Punts Decision on Funding for Education, Vital Services to Voters

The Arizona Legislature, after defeating a proposal to temporarily raise the Arizona sales tax by one cent (a two-thirds majority is required to raise any tax), finally agreed to refer the decision to the voters on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.  If passed, the temporary sales tax will devote two-thirds of the revenues generated to education funding and the other one-third to fund health and human services and public safety.  The tax will automatically be repealed on July 1, 2013.
