It is NOT teachers that ruin Arizona education for children, it is politics and politicians. You should walk in the shoes of a teacher, and through their pocketbooks, before you blame "unqualified" individuals. Take politics out of education, stop the gimmics that we get for "free," which splinter the the delivery of education and the effects of education. God help teachers and children, for they are going to need it!

C Wren, There is an anger management class tomorrow in Room # 5. I called ahead and reserved a seat for you.

Seriously, let's speak to this matter without anger and let's add some ration for good measure.
I support, without anger, the need to keep and develop the best Teachers that Education has to offer. That is the premise of ANY successful organization.

Next - There are no 'rewards' that you speak of. The state scarcely has money to pay for the Teachers that it does have! Last week, our State Treasurer inked a loan with the Bank of America for $700 million. Yes, million!

Finally, what qualifies you to identify and boldly address any Educator as a 'slacker'? Please share with us what credential that you have to credibly make this statement. Further, what did you do about these so called 'slackers'(besides sound off on this blog)once you identified them?

On your broad brush painting of the Education Community I take personal offense. I am married to a career Educator. This Career Educator has earned a Bachelors Degree and recently successfully completed Masters Degree number two. There are few, if any, career choices that require such depth in Educational background.

Our state legislators are in the midst of a solid and frequent battering of Public Education in Arizona and all that it stands for. So, stand by, you just might get your wish for eliminating the 'slackers'. However, be careful what you wish for. Along with the 'slackers' you will see that the true pillars of the Education Community will either be run down OR worse yet, run off.

To close, here is something for you to be aware of - Each member of the House of Representatives typically has two committee assignments. I am disappointed to tell you that we have a representative in our midst who sits on the Education Committee and is a self proclaimed high school drop-out. Now, who is the slacker?

Wren - Public Education needs all of us to support it for the sake of the Children. The fact that you were on this site suggests that you fit in somewhere. Please rethink your position. Our Children are a precious resource and need a solid Education.

AEA obviously does not have the best interests of students in mind, only that of their own members. We need to keep only the BEST teachers, and REWARD THEM! Let the slackers find some other line of work. The last educational grade card I saw for the state gave Arizona a D-... essentially for not weeding out poor teachers and not rewarding good ones. For our students' sakes, this has to change.
