Sales Tax Fails in Senate ~ 8/12/09

.

Today’s Senate session began two hours later than the scheduled 10 AM time, as leadership was rumored to have been working out a deal with Senator Richard Miranda (LD13). Whatever deal evaporated, as the sales tax referral to the November 3rd ballot failed 14-11, two votes shy of the 16 needed for passage. Senator Miranada was absent for today’s Senate session.

Huh, I came home from work today to catch up on what happened in the senate. I must say, I am surprised. The bills that passed today are worse that the bills Brewer vetoed on June 30th. A whole lot of bad stuff got passed today. I’m especially upset about the cuts to education. I have two kids in public school. Even though they’re good schools for AZ, they aren’t nearly the schools we came from in PA. I honestly don’t understand the public perception about education in Arizona. I do know that if a transfer comes up, I think I will seriously consider it. I can’t continue to subject my children to this education system. Hopefully things will change next election cycle.
